Total War: Warhammer Hands on
Very Biased Reviews got to try out Total War: Warhammer
At PC Gamer’s Weekend Event we got to try out Total War: Warhammer. There’s been a lot of hype about the new Total War game so we were excited to see whether it lived up to it.
The battle we got to fight was Ambush at Thundering Falls. It was a head on clash between goblins and dwarves. High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer led our army. The battle began: an ambush! Typical of sneaky goblins. Not to worry. They ran straight into the aim of our cannons. Followed up by our dwarven axmen. Thorgrim joined the battle, using his special abilities to urge on the dwarves and frighten the enemy. Meanwhile there’s another ambush. This time from the left side. The more elite group of dwarven axmen deal with the scoundrels with the help of Valar Minewood, dwarven hero.
While the fighting took place one the left side, suddenly the goblins attacked from the back and head on. The elite Orc Boars start routing the dwarves. But! “Air support incoming”. Dwarven Gyrocopters! If you had any worries about the new features implemented by Total War, well, you shouldn’t worry. Total War, in this pre-alpha edition have nailed the Gyrcopters. They hover over the battlefield blasting the enemy with missiles. Goodbye Orc and goblin army. You were no match for the Dwarven war machine.
We didn’t get to try the campaign, but the battles seem to have retained the Total War feel. The music has outdone itself. It keeps you on the edge of your seat all battle. The Total War franchise has had some memorable soundtracks in the past: flashbacks to “the enemy general is dead!”accompanied by the background Rome Total War music. Total War: Warhammer is a game we’d like to see more of.
We can’t wait to try out the quest system and especially magic.
- Similar UI and controls to Rome 2
- Air units well integrated
- Hero units taken on whole battalions
Total War: Warhammer will be released April 28. It costs $59.99/£39.99.
