Sound of Power
Sound of Power – the speakers shaped like Putin, Kim Jong-Un and Margaret Thatcher
I’ve always thought that I was missing something from my house, but could never work out what. At Gadget Show Live on Thursday, I finally realised what I was missing: a bust of Putin in my living room that’s actually a speaker. Petro Wodkins set out on a mission to pay a tribute to porcelain figures and busts and to develop the concept of useful art. The Sound of Power series features powerful people across the world who, “in their own way, played the world like instruments and made countries and continents alike march to the beat of their metaphorical drums” – the latest release is Margaret Thatcher. These speakers are a piece of art – created in Russia and handmade in Sweden.
Each speaker is made from a marble-like composite material, giving it a realistic look. They are equipped with a full range 4″ driver and built in base reflex. The speaker comes with a 20W amplifier (single channel output and equipped with Bluetooth) fitted inside a handmade wooden case. It cones with a 3.5 AUX cable along with cables for the banana connectors. The amplifier works superbly well as a stand for the speaker, giving it the traditional bust appearance.

A fun, witty addition to your house
Petro Wodkins is known as an artistic prankster. So perhaps it isn’t coincidence that he chose Putin and Kim Jung-Un as his first two busts. Those inclined to enjoy political humour will love these speaker. When I saw them yesterday at Gadget Show Live, they made me smile – I had to write about them! It’s a genius idea. Putin’s speaker is called St Vladimir; Kim Jung-Un’s is Kim Sunshine; Margaret Thatcher’s is Maggie. These speakers not only tell you a story through their art, but also through their audio. These limited edition speakers don’t come cheap, however, costing around £1800. Head over to www.sound-of-power.com and check them out.
I need to tell that I’ve got kinda personal issues with Mr. Putin. I believe hundreds of millions of people including most Russians share these issues. Russians have a complex attitude to the Father of nation. One could argue it’s a social Oedipus Complex. Regardless if you agree or not, he has been heavily affecting our personal lives for the last couple of years, and promptly affecting every Russian’s life for the previous 13 years. I know for sure, but I left his social circles and instead continued as an artist.
We’re all to blame allowing him to become this man of absolute power and for taking him way too seriously. We allow him to play by his own rules. We might face ten to thirty more years of this political game. Mr Putin is in excellent physical shape now turning 63. There’s no signs his political ambitions are fading. He’s not going to change – Petro Wodkins
